  • West Point cadets assigned to 3rd Company of Cadet Field Training participated in the Combat Engineering portion of their training, July 12, at West Point N.Y.The breaching evolution of the engineer site is designed to teach cadets different methods of breaching and entering buildings.  The three methods taught include explosive, ballistic, and mechanical. At the explosives site, charges are placed on doors and detonated to provide entry.  The ballistic site entails using two shotgun rounds followed by a kick to the door in order to complete a successful breach.   • At the combatives pit, eight companies from the Class of 2014 received a four-hour block of instruction from a team of West Point cadets on a series of passes, sweeps and submissions. The training concluded with 90-second sparring session and a final best-of-platoon level competition. The cadre of 25 upperclass cadets trained four weeks to be qualified to train by the Department of Physical Education and was certified by the Master of the Sword.   • The obstacle course builds physical and mental agility, and builds camaraderie through teamwork. Cadet Field Training is summer military and leadership training for rising yearlings at West Point. The Class of 2014 will spend four weeks at Camp Buckner training on marksmanship, Soldier First Responder, orienteering, land navigation, patrolling and close quarter combat. Their physical and mental agility is tested on obstacle course, water confidence course, live fire urban operations and a three-day field training exercise. No longer West Point plebes, cadets from the Class of 2014 are now rising yearlings as they near the end of the four-week Cadet Field Training. These cadets have conducted patrolling, land navigation, urban operations and other blocks of military instruction led by upperclass cadets and a task force composed of Soldiers from the 10th Mountain Division, 41st Field Artillery Brigade, 1st Infantry Division, 101st Airborne Division, the 75th Field Artillery Brigade and the U.S. Army Infantry School.
