Div. combat patch during a ceremony held at Contingency Operating Site Warrior July 8, 2011. First Sgt. Jonas Boggess, assigned to Company G, and a Schertz, Texas, native, presents the Big Red One patch to his Soldier stationed in United States Division – North, Iraq, in support of Operation New Dawn. “It’s an honor to be in such a historic unit. I feel like I’m a part of history,” said Lambert, a Richmond, Va. native. The combat patch is formally recognized as the Shoulder Sleeve insignia – former Wartime Service.

  • CONTINGENCY OPERATING SITE WARRIOR, Iraq – Lieutenant Colonel Keith Casey, commander, 1st Battalion, 5th Field Artillery Regiment, ‘Destroyer,’ congratulates his Soldiers during the 1st Infantry Division Combat Patch Presentation Ceremony held at Contingency Operating Site Warrior July 8, 2011. The combat patch is formally recognized as the Shoulder Sleeve Insignia – former wartime service. The Destroyers rejoined their parent brigade, the 1st Advise and Assist Task Force, currently deployed to United States Division- North, and conduct security patrols and counter-indirect fire operations. “Over the past thirty days, the Soldiers of (1st Bn., 5th FA Regt.) have proven their flexibility and adaptability by performing non-standard mission sets and performing them with excellence,” said Casey, a Janesville, Texas, native. “You truly have earned the right to wear the most distinguished and distinctive combat patch in our Army by serving our nation in the oldest battalion, in the oldest brigade, in the oldest division in our Army; The Big Red One - The First Infantry Division.”
