FORT STEWART, Ga. " The 188th Infantry ‘Battle Ready’ Brigade conducted a change of command ceremony Wednesday morning at the 3rd Infantry Division’s Marne Garden, welcoming Col. Kevin C. Colyer as the new brigade commander.

Colyer assumed the command from Col. Robert A. Warburg, who received command of the 188th Infantry Brigade on June 23, 2009.

The command teams and color bearers of the brigade's four battalions and the Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment stood on the field proudly bearing their colors and representing their units whose Soldiers are currently engaged in ongoing missions.

With the Lt. Gen. Mick Bednarek, commanding general of First Army in attendance, the ceremony's reviewing officer, Maj. Gen. Kevin R. Wendel, commanding general of First Army Division East, addressed the assembly.

“When we talk about what these great Soldiers and leaders do here every day, it’s not lost on anybody that we are dealing with tremendous challenges and change every single day,” said Wendel. “A hallmark of what this great officer Bob Warburg brought to the fight is uniquely remarkable.”

“His drive and excellence has set the tone for an amazing ability for our Army to train itself and prepare for the work at hand.”

Wendel described Colyer as coming to the brigade with an extraordinary background, not just a U.S. Army Special Forces officer, but more importantly a full-spectrum officer.

“He brings that kind of warrior-spirit ethos, passion and focus that we need to make our Army better and better every day.”

“As we transition this great team in stride, while it is performing a mission, take no knee, take no rest. We have a great leader just stepping into the saddle and being able to lead this great brigade forward.”

Colyer comes to the 188th Infantry Brigade from participating in the Senior Service College Fellowship Program at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, N.C.

Warburg will continue on to his next assignment as the chief of staff for the United States Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School at Fort Bragg, N.C.

The 188th Infantry Brigade, along with the other training support brigades in First Army Division East, provides and facilitates theater-focused training for deploying National Guard and Reserve units and assists with redeployment and demobilizing following deployment. Based out of Fort Stewart, the 188th "Battle Ready" Brigade has been training Reserve Component units for deployments continuously since 2003.
