REDSTONE ARSENAL, Ala.--Two Soldiers have been recognized as Redstone Arsenal’s best of the best for 2011.

Sgt. 1st Class Rebecca Williams and Spc. Miguel Perez were honored as Redstone’s NCO of the Year and Soldier of the Year, respectively, during an annual award luncheon June 13 at The Overlook. The event traditionally helps launch Armed Forces Celebration Week.

Both honorees received thousands of dollars worth of gifts from sponsoring organizations throughout the local community.

“These two young Soldiers went above and beyond,” Maj. Gen. Jim Rogers, commander of the Aviation and Missile Command and Redstone Arsenal, told the approximately 150 attendees.

Williams, 30, from Detroit, Mich., belongs to the NCO Academy, while Perez, 21, from Hampton, Va., represents the HHC 59th Ordnance Brigade.

“It means everything to me,” Williams said of her award, “just knowing the support from the community.”

“All the quarter boards led up to this,” Perez said. “And it paid off in the end.”
