Stan Copeland, U.S. Army Garrison Grafenwoehr’s family life chaplain, welcomes Pvt.2 David Bennett, 23rd Ordnance Company, 18th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, to the stage prior to the cake cutting during the Army’s 236th birthday celebration at the Main Post Dining Facility, June 14. Copeland and Bennett, who entered the Army July 2, 1969, and Nov. 1, 2010, respectively, were the oldest and youngest Soldiers and thus received the honor of cutting the cake.

  • GRAFENWOEHR, Germany -- (From left to right) Col. Vann Smiley, commander, U.S. Army Garrison Grafenwoehr; Chaplain (Maj.) Stan Copeland, USAG Grafenwoehr family life chaplain; Garrison Command Sgt. Maj. William Berrios; Pvt.2 David Bennett, 23rd Ordnance Company; and the Joint Multinational Training Command’s Command Sgt. Maj. Dennis Zavodsky ceremoniously cut the cake to honor the Army’s 236th birthday at the Main Post Dining Facility, June 14. In addition to cake, the more than 300 patrons in attendance dined on lobster, steak, shrimp and assorted sides. Copeland and Bennett, who entered the Army July 2, 1969, and Nov. 1, 2010, respectively, were the oldest and youngest Soldiers and thus received the honor of cutting the cake.
