Presidio's California Medical Detachment welcomes new commander

PRESIDIO OF MONTEREY, Calif. ‐ Members of the California Medical Detachment, Presidio of Monterey, welcomed their new commander during a formal change-of-command ceremony here May 19.

Col. John M. Stang assumed responsibility when Col. Daniel H. Jimenez turned over command of the detachment during a well-attended event.

“This is an important day,” said Col. Dallas W. Homas, Madigan Health System commander, who officiated at the change-of-command ceremony, “not only [because] the Presidio of Monterey says goodbye to a friend and a colleague, [but there is] a change in the leadership of the organization that partners with commanders [in] being responsible for the physical and mental well-being of every service member in the area, as well as more than 1,200 children

station here with their Soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines.”

Honor was a theme in the speeches presented by the former commander as well as the new commander.

As he thanked past and present members of the California Medical Detachment for their work, Jimenez spoke about how privileged and honored he felt to have commanded the California Medical Detachment for the past two years. Jimenez was slated to take command of Public Health Command Region-Europe, Landstuhl, Germany.

Stang, previously assigned as the chief of the Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation at Darnall Army Medical Center, Fort Hood, Texas, followed by also expressing feeling honored to take command of the California Medical Detachment. And, like Jimenez, he also thanked the detachments service members for their work. Then he expressed his gratitude to his family, and most particular his wife, for their love and support for over the past 23 years, before saying he was looking forward to providing the health services and promoting health and wellness in the community.
