This week has seen a great deal of changes. On Tuesday, Fort McPherson closed it’s Golfer’s Club, Divots Grill and Golf Pro Shop. One day later, even more facilities closed. These included the Fort McPherson gym, the Fort McPherson frame shop, Hang-Ups, the Fort McPherson Auto Care/Hobby Shop, Leisure Activities, and on Fort Gillem, the Gregory Cottage.

Though a lot of focus is on services closing, we also managed to restore one former service " the Strike Zone Grill. The grill, which had closed earlier in the year, was reopened due to the closure of the food vendors at the Fort McPherson Mini-Mall.

Our goal has always been to close down the base while retaining as much services as possible and keep the community satisfied despite the necessary downsizing. For this reason, we decided the community, be they our Civilian employees, Soldiers or Family members looking for a good cooked meal, deserve the chance to have that.

The service, located at The Strike Zone bowling center, will be available for lunch 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., Mondays through Fridays. Meals range in price from $2.95 to $7.95, with a wide variety of selections sure to please all tastes. The service will remain open until July 15.

As for future developments, this week’s most important changes will concern the Fort McPherson Post Chapel and Cantonment Chapel. Both of these houses of worship, which have served the public for decades, will close their doors in the coming week.

The Post Chapel will be decommissioned Sunday at 11 a.m. following Mass, with Cantonment Chapel being decommissioned Tuesday following the noon Mass.

It will be a sad day for many to see the buildings close, but as mentioned earlier, the Garrison will continue to work to keep services up as long as possible. For those looking to continue to worship on Fort McPherson, all services will be moved to the Post Theater, where they will continue until July 31.
