2nd Brigade Combat Team conducts change of command

The 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (LI), welcomed its new commander Friday at Wheeler-Sack Army Airfield on Fort Drum.

Col. David M. Miller relinquished his position of command to Col. Dennis S. Sullivan, after 40 months of continuous leadership to the Commando Brigade.

Miller assumed command of 2nd BCT in December 2007. He led the Commandos on a successful tour in Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2009-10. He also led 2nd BCT through two successful rotations at the Joint Readiness Training Center, Fort Polk, La.

Miller is currently pending orders to his next duty assignment.

No stranger to the North Country, Sullivan has served with the 10th Mountain Division (LI) in a variety of roles.

Commissioned as a second lieutenant in the infantry in 1988, he has served in various duty positions, including rifle platoon leader, company executive officer, observer controller, battalion executive officer, battalion commander and assistant chief of staff.

He was assigned at Fort Campbell, Ky.; Vilseck, Germany; and Fort Irwin, Calif., before joining 10th Mountain Division (LI) in 2001. Sullivan deployed to Afghan-istan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom as executive officer for 1st Battalion, 87th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team in 2003.

From September 2006 to February 2009, he commanded 2nd Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment, 1st BCT. The unit deployed in September 2007 to Kirkuk, Iraq, in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Sullivan served as 10th Mountain Division assistant chief of staff, G3, from May 2009 to December 2010.
