YONGSAN GARRISON, South Korea - The 2011 KATUSA-U.S. Soldier Friendship Week was held here April 19 - 21, hosted by the Republic of Korea Army Support Group.

This year's KUSFW events included soccer, softball, Korean wrestling, 5k team marathon, tug of war, all ranks relay, Tae Kwon Do, a talent show, a K-pop celebrity concert and other cultural performances.

There were many chances to experience both the Korean and U.S. culture, such as making kimchi, tasting traditional tea and playing chess.

This year's participating units were the 65th Medical Brigade, 1st Signal Brigade, 501st Military Intelligence Brigade, Yongsan Garrison, 176th Finance Battalion, Special Troops Battalion-Korea, 595th Maintenance Company and 94th Military Police Battalion.

The opening ceremony was held April 19 on Lombardo Field here with the support of the United Nations Command Honor Guard, Eighth Army Band, ROK Ministry of National Defense Band and Special Forces Martial Arts Team.

Furthering strengtening the ROK-U.S. Alliance, the friendship week came to an end with 65th Medical Brigade emerging as the first place winners of the overall competition.

"You are all the winners," said Lt. Col. Park Ju-hyun, commander of Republic of Korea Army Support Group - Yongsan Garrison. "Through the sports competition, sweating together as one team, I hope it is the chance where the ROK and U.S. Alliance can be affirmed again."
