Boy Scouts work to preserve historic World War I trail
Trail is home to spot where Sgt. Alvin York fought
A member of Heidelberg Scout Troop 4 to improve the Argonne Forest trail of World War I Medal of Honor recipient Sgt. Alvin York. Recently, American historians have rediscovered the spot where Sgt. York fought Oct. 8, 1918, in Châtel-Chéhéry during the Meuse-Argonne offensive against the German forces. York's actions that day earned him the nation's highest honor. The scouts improvement project will help ensure that this path is maintained and suitable for all visitors who want to learn its history.
