Fort Stewart schools ready for online enrollment

FORT STEWART, Ga. - The Department of Defense recently announced the launch of the online preregistration process that's designed to make school transitions easier for students attending DOD schools like those at Fort Stewart.

"Parents wanted more options and this streamlines the enrollment process, and allows for a one stop shop," said Mitch Finley, instructional support for technology with the Department of Defense Education Activity. "The site is simple and easy to navigate."

The Web site can be used to preregister students entering pre-kindergarten up to 12th grade in DOD schools from anywhere in the world, even while moving from one installation to the next, according to the DOD.

"If parents are internet savvy, they will enjoy the capability of the Web site," said Finley.

To begin the process, parents simply answer questions ranging from student's birth date to citizenship and they can also attach documents like military orders.

According to the DOD, the school's registrar office can pull completed paperwork from a que upon the Family's arrival at the new school in order to complete the process.

Online preregistration does not replace the entire registration method but offers a benefit to parents and schools, beginning the enrollment process from any personal computer.

The DOD states that parents will still need to stop by the school to update documents, complete other forms such as bus routes and most importantly sign the official registration request.

"We're committed to making school transitions easier," said Mike Lynch, chief of policy and legislation for the Department of Defense Education Activity. "We believe that improving the school registration process is the perfect place to start."

Parents with children who will attend Fort Stewart schools can access the website at https://registration.dodea.edu. and begin the preregistration process.

In addition, parents can visit any Fort Stewart school to start the registration process. Schools will also publish in the coming weeks, the dates for student registration and enrollment during the upcoming summer break.
