DAVENPORT, Iowa - Lt. Col. Steven T. Wall of the U.S. Army Sustainment Command was the keynote speaker at the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps formal ball at St. Ambrose University April 3.

"Your participation in JROTC makes you different," said Wall, directed to the participants of the program. "It sets you apart from your peers, and that is a good thing."

The Blue Devil JROTC Battalion consists of students from both Davenport Central and West High Schools, ranging from freshman to seniors. The program included an awards ceremony honoring outstanding students within the program and also recognized the senior cadets for the 2010-2011 school year.

The JROTC's mission statement says it prepares high school students for leadership roles while making them aware of their rights, responsibilities and privileges as American citizens. It is an incentive for promoting graduation from high school and it provides instruction and rewarding opportunities which will benefit the student, community and nation.

"This is a great organization, and should some of you choose to continue on into one of the many branches of service, I will be proud to serve with each and every one of you and I look forward to it," said Wall.
