Musicians play German and American favorites
A variety of classical music, show tunes and medleys from German and American popular eras enchanted the standing room only audience in Festhalle Baumhain in Mannheim's Luisenpark March 20 during a benefit concert by the Polizeimusikkorps Mannheim, the city's police band March.
Sponsored by the Mannheim German-American Women's Club under the auspices of 5th Signal Commander Brig. Gen. Jeffrey G. Smith Jr., the spring event paid tribute to the 60-year history of the women's club.
To the delight of attendees, Smith added a performance to his remarks when he picked up his guitar and played a folk song about baling hay.
