FORT BENNING, Ga. - The Army's official website for the 2011 Best Ranger Competition launched Friday. The unveiled site at www.army.mil/ranger is the one-stop shop for information about the competition, which is April 15-17.
The site makes it easier than ever to follow one of the toughest challenges in the Army, said the Maneuver Center's web content manager Anthony O'Bryant.
The Best Ranger Competition is a three-day event consisting of back-to-back physical and mental tasks with no rest built in to the schedule. Competitors are unaware of the event sequence until arriving at the test site. The historical attrition rate is about 60 percent.
The site features team information, maps, directions, news coverage, videos and photo galleries. The schedule of events will be posted the first day of the competition along with constant updates via Twitter.
"We will have people on the ground tweeting so that viewers will be able to 'follow' competitors by accessing up-to-the-minute coverage of the event," O'Bryant said.
Followers of Fort Benning's Facebook page, www.facebook.com/fortbenningfans, can also get into the BRC spirit by joining in the conversation and checking out the content under the new the "BRC" tab. Fort Benning's website operations team will be "on the ground" at the competition to give updates. The BRC "Smart Book" will be available online the week of the competition and include a comprehensive guide for spectators.
