FORT RUCKER, Ala. -- As the weather gets warmer military Families can learn about vacation deals and off-time activities available in the Wiregrass and beyond.

In order to help Soldiers, Families and Army civilians make the best of their leisure time, Fort Rucker Leisure Travel Services hosts the 23rd annual Travel Extravaganza, March 9 at The Landing from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

"Approximately 49 businesses are coming out to inform military Families what is new this year in the travel industry and offer great discounts," Kristen Hartwell, Leisure Travel Services Program Manager, said.

Vendors, including Carnival Cruise Line, Edgewater Beach Resort, the Georgia Aquarium and Wild Adventures, will offer door prizes, allowing military Families to try their vacation spots for free.

Hartwell says she expects about 1,500 to 2,000 people to visit the extravaganza this year. Participants can receive information from multiple beach resorts from Panama City Beach, Fla., to Destin, Fla.

Local vendors, including Landmark Park and Water World in Dothan, will also share information with Families who want to stay in the area and have little free time.

When entering the extravaganza patrons will receive a bag containing a Leisure Travel Services newsletter and price list. Additionally, people will have the opportunity to enter a prize drawing. Some of the prizes this year include a Government Vacation Rewards - Week Vacation, a Sleuth's Mystery Dinner Show for two, a two night stay at Four Points by Sheraton or two admission tickets to Wet 'N' Wild.

Leisure Travel Service booked more than 3,000 accommodations and trips in 2010. The travel services office offers a military discount, tickets to events including Talladega Super Speedway and Walt Disney World, 40 percent off Disney hotels, 5,000 different hotels to book with, and travel packages to attractions across the United States and abroad.

All servicemembers, Department of Defense civilians and their Families are welcome to attend the event.

If interested in booking a getaway for a week, weekend or daily outing with Family, contact Leisure Travel Services, located at the Solider Service Center, Bldg. 5700, Rm. 130 or call 255-9517. Office hours are Mondays through Fridays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The office will be closed during the Travel Extravaganza.
