Deputy Chief of Chaplains nominated for second star

The Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates announced today that the President has nominated Chaplain (Brig. Gen.) Donald L. Rutherford for promotion to the grade of major general and assignment as Chief of Chaplains, United States Army.

Chaplain Rutherford became the 23rd Deputy Chief of Chaplains, United States Army, on November 16, 2007.

He has been directing operations for all the components of the Chaplain Branch, serving as the Chief Operations Officer for the Office of the Chief of Chaplains (OCCH), and providing oversight to the US Army Chaplain Center and School (USACHCS).

Chaplain Rutherford has traveled extensively in CONUS and around the world providing spiritual leadership and pastoral support to the Army Family.
