Mission Command Battle Lab supports joint experiment

FORT LEAVENWORTH, Kan. (Feb. 17, 2011) - The Mission Command Battle Laboratory will support the Joint Forcible Entry Warfighting Experiment 2011, centered on the mythical country of Ellis, from Feb. 28 to March 17.
The experiment, hosted by the Maneuver Battle Lab at Fort Benning, Ga., will examine both Army and joint capabilities to conduct forcible entry operations by airborne, amphibious or land assault into austere locations to overcome or avoid near-peer enemy anti-access and area denial efforts.
The focus of the experiment is to determine how much better a brigade combat team, enhanced with an extra maneuver battalion and other enablers, performs when conducting a forcible entry against a fictional near-peer country set in 2018.
The scenario will require U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps units to simultaneously fight against an array of weapons compatible with those of U.S. forces. Playing and supporting efforts are coming from locations throughout the United States, including Fort Bragg, N.C.; Fort Huachuca, Ariz.; Fort Sill, Okla.; Fort Lee, Va.; Langley Air Force Base, Va.; the USMC Warfighting Laboratory in Virginia, and the U.S. Navy Warfare Development Command in Rhode Island.
MCBL, as a supporting lab, is looking for points of friction in mission command, specifically as it relates to interoperability with the Navy and Marine Corps. MCBL will study these effects or capability gaps to develop recommendations in changing command-and-control relationships, air and missile defense, intelligence sharing, and shaping new warfighting concepts.
