Secretary of the Army Public Service Award

The military honored former House Armed Services Committee Chairman Isaac "Ike" Skelton Feb. 14 with a joint service ceremony at Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall, Va.

The ceremony, hosted by Secretary of the Army John McHugh, was attended by dignitaries from across the Department of Defense.

A leader in shaping the modern Army and DOD, Skelton, a Congressman from Missouri, was instrumental in creating the framework for joint operations in the field, supporting critical funding to sustain and modernize the Army, and promoting education of Army officers and civilian personnel.
Prior to the public ceremony, McHugh presented Skelton with the Decoration for Distinguished Civilian Service for his substantial contributions to the Army and his decades of patriotic service to the nation.
