Twelve senior career counselors and Reserve Component Counselors were recognized by Maj. Gen. Karl R. Horst, commander, Command Sgt. Maj. Michael Williams and Sgt. Maj. Craig T. Lott, command career counselor of Joint Force Headquarters National Capital Region/U.S. Army Military District of Washington on Jan. 28 at the National Defense University's Baruch Auditorium for meeting the command's Fiscal Year 2011 retention goals.

Horst congratulated the counselors on their professionalism and achievements.

"We can all take great pride in the fine young Americans who are staying in our Army and this command. Thanks to our counselors continued efforts for excellence, we are currently 50% complete with meeting the Fiscal Year 2011 retention goal with less than four months into the fiscal year. This exceptional accomplishment reflects the superior investment of time and leadership at all levels. Commanders, NCOs and Career Counselors are clearly working together to attract, retain and sustain quality Soldiers that represent the best that our Army has to offer. Your hard work is the reason that the Military District of Washington has been selected to receive the Army Retention Excellence Award for Fiscal Year 2010," said Horst.

Units and Career Counselors recognized were: The 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) - Master Sergeant Matthew Quick, Sgt. 1st Class Strate Flessas, and Sgt. 1st Class William Bastian; Joint Base Myer Henderson Hall & The U.S. Army Band "Pershing's Own" - Sgt. 1st Class (P) Angie Meadows, Staff Sgt. Jamie Hill, and John Martin, Reserve Component Counselor; Army Air Operations Group and Fort Belvoir - Sgt. 1st Class Yolanda Smith, Staff Sgt. Rafael Arroyo and Master Sgt. Carolina Boudreaux, Reserve Component Counselor; The United States Army Field Band and Fort Hamilton - Master Sgt. Jerry McCarley, Sgt. 1st Class Pablo Martin and Sgt. 1st Class Scott Halbleib, Reserve Component Counselor.

Also recognized for organizing the ceremony from the Retention Officer were: Sharon Y. Smith, Master Sgt. Glorena Russell, and Master Sgt. Javier Bedoya. Master Sgt. Glorena Russell also served as the narrator for the ceremony.
