CAMP ARIFJAN, Kuwait - Cooks and servers gathered together from across Kuwait to honor their hard work of bringing the Thanksgiving holiday spirit to Third Army Soldiers.

Lt. Gen. William G. Webster, Third Army commanding general, awarded Third Army dining facilities with trophies for best Thanksgiving decorations during the Thanksgiving 2010 Commanding General Best Decorated Dining Facility Award Ceremony at Camp Arifjan, Kuwait Jan. 5.

During the ceremony, Lt. Gen. Webster highlighted the effort the Third Army dining facilities took in ensuring Soldiers felt a little more at home during the Thanksgiving season.

"I just want to thank all of the workers who provided such wonderful decorations, sculptures and the wonderful food they made that looked so tasty and reminded Soldiers of when they grew up," Lt. Gen. Webster said.

Trophies were awarded to first and second place in three categories, large, small and assistant in kind, based on the size of the dining facility. The winners included Zones 1, 2 and 6 dining facilities at Camp Arifjan and the dining facilities at Kuwaiti Naval Base, the Sea Port of Demarcation and Camp Buehring.

For Panthi Kirshna, who has served eight years as the dining facility manager for the Camp Arifjan Zone 2 dining facility and was awarded the first prize trophy for the large category, the trophy was a culmination of all their hard work.

"For Thanksgiving we focused on the Indians welcoming the Pilgrims theme," said Kirshna. "We started by setting up our displays in a conex outside by using spare scraps from around the dining facility."

Kirshna explained how this award not only highlighted their hard work during the holiday season, but throughout the year as well.

"We want all the Soldiers to feel like they are home when they come into our facility," said Kirshna. "When they work hard all day, this is the place where they can take 30 minutes to relax and enjoy a meal."
