U.S. Army Showcases Latest Modernization Equipment at 2010 Army Navy Game

To best prepare and equip our Soldiers with advanced capabilities to conduct today's and tomorrow's full-spectrum operations, the U.S. Army is incrementally upgrading and modernizing its equipment and technologies. As a means to demonstrate the Army's latest high-tech vehicle, robotic and Soldier equipment and technologies, multiple Program Executive Offices, in coordination with ASA(ALT), participated in an Army Modernization display at the annual Army/Navy Football Game on Dec. 11, in Philadelphia, PA.

During the Army/Navy pre-game activities, approximately 25,000 game guests and fans, including the United States Military Academy cadets, United States Naval Academy Midshipmen, Soldiers and Army families, visited the Army Modernization display located inside of the Army ticket gate entrance to Lincoln Financial Field. Attendees had the opportunity to see, explore and interact with the latest equipment that is being developed for and employed in Afghanistan, as well as interact with U.S. Army Soldiers who have developed and used the high-tech equipment in theatre.

The Army Modernization demonstrations showcased Soldier uniforms, accessories and communications gear; weapons, including the M777A2 artillery piece currently in use in Afghanistan; military vehicles, including the Mine Resistant Ambush Protected All Terrain Vehicle (M-ATV) and Stryker; and the Small Unmanned Ground Vehicle (SUGV) - used to search for explosive devices, search buildings and conduct reconnaissance operations.

Additionally, the Army demonstrated 'Connecting Soldiers to Digital Applications (CSDA)' - an initiative that allows Soldiers to create apps for their Smartphones and other handheld devices, to use for education, training, administrative functions, reference, and select operational support.

These technologies are a key part of the Army's new Modernization effort, which is providing equipment and non-equipment solutions to our Soldiers that will result in a versatile mix of mobile, networked Brigade Combat Teams. Once they are commissioned, today's West Point cadets will be among the first to lead Soldiers in these high-tech Brigade Combat Teams. The diverse talents, leadership preparation, and state-of-the-art technologies combine to create officer-leaders prepared to defeat complex threats and protect Soldiers across the full spectrum of operations.

The Army's Program Executive Offices have already begun planning follow on events and activities for 2011 that will showcase the latest modernization efforts - including the Army's emerging tactical network strategy. The network is the centerpiece of Brigade Combat Team Modernization. It provides the Soldier, at all BCT echelons, access to increased Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance information, continuous situational awareness, biometric information and greatly improved communications.
