Laughs a plenty on serious subject
Safety expert/speaker Steve Verret tosses out a little taste of his home state of Louisiana in the form of shrimp-flavored noodles to Jimmy Carpenter, Fort McPherson golf course employee, Tuesday at the Fort McPherson Post Theater. Verret, a stand-up comedian as well, used audience interaction and his own blend of humor to keep audiences involved in his presentation. Though Verret spoke about serious subjects, such as drinking and driving, vehicle safety, dealing with depression and suicide prevention, his blend of personal life stories, statistics, props, and comedy, as well as making his presentation a competition between the two sides of the audience, kept attendees involved, alert and laughing. Verret's visit, sponsored by the U.S. Army Garrison command group, was designed to help educate garrison Soldiers and Civilian employees on dangers they may encounter during the holiday season and how they can avoid them. "One mistake is all it takes to ruin your life," Verret said. "I don't want you to make these mistakes."
