FORT WAINWRIGHT, Alaska - "Northern Lights RockFest" had Fort Wainwright Soldiers and family members rocking. Sponsored by the Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation, the event featured the national act Drowning Pool, and special guest group Static Cycle at Hanger 3.

An estimated 1,600 people filled the hangar for the free concert Nov. 6.

"The event was so successful thanks to a team effort," said MJ Lohrenz, director of FMWR. "DES, DPTMS, the 1-25th, 16th CAB, MPs and all the MWR staff - eveyone. It took a lot of manpower to put this event together."

FMWR special events coordinator Megan Brown helped bring Drowning Pool to the Fort Wainwright stage. Mike Luce, Drowning Pool drummer said, "We\'re honored to be here and headline the show. It allows us to play more songs."

The bands played nearly two hours after the opening band, Alaskan-grown Static Cycle, got the party started with an hour-long set including the new hit song, "Inside This World of Mine," which is garnishing national media attention. The video features an appearance by Bristol Palin and was filmed at the Chena Hot Springs Ice Hotel, 60 miles from Fort Wainwright.
