Fort Rucker celebrates Military Family Month in November

FORT RUCKER, Ala. -- Military Families are officially recognized for their contributions and resilience to our nation during November.

Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation celebrates military Families through various activities planned during the monthlong salute.

Kicking off Military Family Month is the Nov. 6 Salute to Military Families.

DFMWR will recognize the Military Family of the Year winners during the Salute to Military Families at the annual Army Aviation Association of America Chili Cook-Off Nov. 6.

The Army Family Covenant and the Army Community Covenant resigning will be parts of the highlighted event. Families are encouraged to come support and be entertained by the numerous events and activities planned during the day.

During November, DFMWR facilities have special discounts and activities planned.

"Military Family Month is a time where DFMWR can show our constant appreciation to our military Families by way of special discounts and fun activities at our DFMWR facilities," said Brian Jackson, Family, Morale, Welfare and Recreation Delivery System program manager. "Discounts like free printing Fridays at the Center Library, lower rates at Rucker Lanes, special deals at our Auto Skills Center, and much more."

Several activities planned in celebration of Families this November include:

Army Community Service distributes cookies from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesdays at the post exchange.

Rucker Lanes offers discounts on bowling.

The Landing hosts a Thanksgiving feast and offers a special family rate of $39.50 for two adults and up to two children ages 12 and younger.

Starbucks, located in the Landing Zone, offers buy one specialty drink and get the second for half price from 1 to 6 p.m. daily.

The Center Library offers free printing Fridays.

Arts and Crafts Center features demonstrations in the lobby of their facility Wednesdays and Thursdays from 1 to 4 p.m.

Automotive Skills Center offers no bay fees Wednesday through Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. and free oil changes from the staff on Wednesdays - patrons must bring their own oil and filter.

Silver Wings Golf Course offers two-for-one golf fees with cart after noon.

Fortenberry-Colton Physical Fitness Facility hosts a Group Fitness Medley Nov. 17 from 3 to 8 p.m.

Outdoor Recreation hosts boating safety workshops Nov. 8 and 29 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Leisure Travel offers a 5 percent discount on Disney tickets (restrictions apply).

Child, Youth and School Services provides multiple opportunities for parents to interact with their children in various programs and activities during the month.

"One month is simply not enough time to recognize our military Families," said Jackson. "Our job at DFMWR is to provide the best activities, programs, and events for our military Families year-round, and this month we will go over and beyond for them."

One Family member reflected on Military Family Month.

"Military family month is a time when everyone in the military Family is recognized for all of their hard work and perseverance in supporting their loved ones," said Danielle Hanes, a military spouse. "It is a time to reflect on our accomplishments as a Family and gives us strength to keep it up."
