Fort Rucker couples invited to say 'aloha' to building strong marriages
October 14, 2010
FORT RUCKER, Ala. -- Couples can enjoy time together and strengthen their marriages during the Couples Aloha Paradise Fun Night Oct. 16 from 4 to 6 p.m. at West Beach Lake Tholocco.
This event is one of many held during Domestic Abuse Prevention Month to educate people about violence and abuse.
Building positive relationships is key to mitigating domestic abuse, said Tina O'Ree, Army Community Service Family Advocacy Program victim advocate.
"Typically, domestic violence is negative. We wanted to do something positive to spotlight positive parts of marriage," she said. "We're going to talk about positive things, relax and have fun."
Paradise fun night activities include hula dancing, limbo contest, luau costume contests and other games. FAP staff will distribute educational material on building stronger marital relationships during the evening.
Marion Cornish, who directed the event for the past four years, said she always received positive feedback from couples who attended.
"This event is one way to show couples how to do something positive and promote quality time for each other," the former FAP training specialist said. "It's an event to bring them together and build couple enrichment skills. It's designed to be a fun, healthy event for couples."
