2010 Army Fall/Winter Safety Campaign

What is it'

The Army's annual Fall/Winter Safety Campaign promotes individual responsibility and engagement on all fronts-between leaders, Soldiers, families and peers-to help prevent off-duty fatalities during the fall and winter seasons.

What has the Army done'

On Aug. 27, the U.S. Army Combat Readiness/Safety Center launched the 2010 Fall/Winter Safety Campaign to raise awareness of the increased hazards associated with fall and winter activities and provide Soldiers, family members and civilians the information they need to manage risk and reduce accidental injuries and deaths.

This year's campaign, which runs through March 31, emphasizes prevention and vigilance and is driven by a theme reminding all audiences that wherever their adventures take them, fall and winter are "no time to chill" when it comes to safety.

The campaign offers information on hunting, skiing and snowboarding, cold weather injury and privately owned vehicle and Army motor vehicle operations, plus many additional topics. Supporting products include posters, videos and feature articles for use by leaders and safety officers in meeting their unit's unique needs. The complete campaign is available online at the U.S. Army Combat Readiness/Safety Center Home Page.

Why is this important to the Army'

Cooler temperatures and winter weather present persistent challenges for Soldiers and civilians operating in theater and at home, including driving in adverse conditions and increased personal risk when working outdoors. The Army team must remain watchful of the increased hazards associated with fall and winter activities and stay engaged throughout this high-risk season.

What efforts does the Army plan to continue in the future'

The USACR/Safety Center will continue producing annual seasonal safety campaigns to heighten Soldier awareness of the risks associated with on- and off-duty activities.
