September 10, 2010
FORT LEE, Va. - Another chapter in the history of the Combined Arms Support Command and Sustainment Center of Excellence began September 9, 2010, during a ceremony at Fort Lee when Maj. Gen. James L. Hodge took command from Brig. Gen. Jesse R. Cross.
Deputy commanding general and chief of staff for the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command, Lt. Gen. John E. Sterling, hosted the event and thanked Cross for taking on two jobs and filling the almost three-month gap before Hodge could arrive.
While serving as commander, Cross oversaw the memorialization of the SCoE building, dedicated a portion of the Army Logistics University campus, moved additional Ordnance School Soldiers to Fort Lee, stood up the Transportation School and preformed two change of command ceremonies. He will now resume his duties as the Quartermaster School commandant.
Hodge, a 1978 graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, joins the CASCOM team after serving as the commander for the Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command, Scott Air Force Base, Ill. During his remarks, Hodge said he plans to build upon the great reputation that Fort Lee has across the Army.
"You can currently see changes taking place that are both important and impressive across the installation," said Hodge. "Rest assured, I will insist those changes build on the accomplishments of Generals Chambers and Cross."
In his previous positions, Hodge has served as commander of the 100th Transportation Company at Fort Eustis, Va., and the commander of the Division Support Command for 3rd Infantry Division at Fort Stewart, Ga. He also served as the deputy commanding general, Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command at Fort Eustis, Va.
His multifunctional logistics assignments include: Platoon Leader; Instructor, Transportation and Aviation Logistics School, Fort Eustis, Va.; Personnel Systems Research Analyst and Assignments Officer, U.S. Army Personnel Command, Alexandria, Va.; Transportation Staff Officer, U.S. European Command, Germany; Executive Officer to the Commanding General, Army Materiel Command, Fort Belvoir, Va.
At his new position, Hodge will oversee the SCoE; a world-class leader development, training, and capabilities development organization responsible for the education of more than 112,000 students annually. The mission of CASCOM and SCoE is to provide integrated logistics, human resources and financial doctrine in support of the Army\'s combat forces. It also consolidates training and leader development, concepts and doctrine, and combat development to ensure the Army has a campaign-quality joint and expeditionary capable force.
