Fort Rucker gains new star, deputy commander

FORT RUCKER, Ala. -- Col. Timothy J. Edens, U.S. Army Aviation Center of Excellence deputy commander, was nominated by President Barack Obama for appointment to the rank of brigadier general.

Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates announced the presidential nomination Aug. 30.

Edens entered the Army in 1981, graduating from the United States Military Academy, and assumed duties as the chief of staff, U.S. Army Aviation Center of Excellence, at Fort Rucker in July 2009.

His awards and decorations include Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War On Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Combat Aviation Badge, the Air Assault Badge, the Parachutist Badge and Master Army Aviator Badge.
