U.S. Army, Alaska aids Pakistan flood victims

FORT RICHARDSON, Alaska, Aug. 27 - U. S. Army Alaska is deploying an aviation task force of approximately 325 Soldiers and 18 helicopters from Fort Wainwright to provide humanitarian and disaster relief in support of flood-relief operations in Pakistan.

Named Task Force Denali, the Soldiers and aircraft are assigned to the 1st Battalion, 52nd Aviation Regiment, a general support aviation battalion from the 16th Combat Aviation Brigade at Fort Wainwright. The unit will be sending 10 CH-47 Chinook and 8 UH-60 Blackhawk helicopters.

Transporting the Soldiers and helicopters from Fort Wainwright to Pakistan will be U. S. Air Force cargo aircraft in a series of strategic airlifts beginning early this week.
