ABERDEEN PROVING GROUND, Md. - Community members gathered to observe Women's Equality Day at the Edgewood Conference Center here Aug. 23.
Aberdeen Proving Ground Commanding General Maj. Gen. Nick Justice gave opening remarks to a crowd of about 100 people assembled for the event. Guest speaker Michelina LaForgia told the group about the importance of Women's Equality Day.
This year is the 90th anniversary of women's right to vote. In August 1920, the United States ammended the Constitution granting the right to vote. In 1978, Congress designated August 26 as Women's Equality Day to honor women's successful campaign to win the right to vote and their continuing efforts toward equality.
