Wellness/ASAP Center moves

To better serve its customers, the Fort Sill Well Being-Army Substance Abuse Program Center now has all its programs under one roof in Building 3415 Miner Road (at Babcock Road).

And, its recent name change from strictly Army Substance Abuse Program Division, better reflect its missions, programs and allows it to grow, said Jay Khalifeh, ASAP manager. The change is part of an Armywide initiative and Fort Sill's program is the first to make the transition in the Installation Management Command - West Region.

"We are passionate about helping people and are here to assist them with a variety of services," Khalifeh said.

The Well Being-ASAP Center had a soft opening July 29. Its 23 staff members have been moving into the new facility since mid-July. Although some employees are still unpacking boxes, the center is now fully operational on Miner Road, Khalifeh said.

The center's programs include the Suicide Prevention Program, Risk Reduction Program, Employee Assistance Program, Biochemical Testing and ASAP. Formerly, these programs were located in three different buildings on Craig and Ringgold roads, Khalifeh said. The center is under the Directorate of Human Resources.

The new facility features offices, clinical spaces and five training rooms.

"Now we're able to run down the hall and talk over issues, and have meetings at the drop of a hat," Khalifeh said. "It's a more supportive environment where people can give their best every day."

The new name reflects all the center's programs, he said. Before, when people heard ASAP, they thought: 'I don't have a drinking problem I don't need to use it,' Khalifeh said.

But then-ASAP also offered programs such as the Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training under its Suicide Prevention Program and conflict management under EAP, he said.

The center will have an official grand opening in early September.
