FORT RUCKER, Ala. -- Children can swim late into the night during the Splash! pool's Kids After Dark event Aug. 5 from 7 to 9 p.m.

Staff extends pool hours from the regular 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. schedule to allow Families to enjoy poolside time after the sun goes down, said Jonathan Cole, Aquatics Program business manager.

"(It is) something a little bit more Family friendly to compliment Adult After Dark activities," said Mike Dunford, Aquatics Program assistant manager.

Splash! facility amenities include water slides, a rock climbing wall, spray park and tiki bar, Cole noted. The pool is located behind The Landing Zone, Fort Rucker's casual dining restaurant, which is open until 9 p.m. on Aug. 5.

Installation senior leaders and spouses brainstormed the event concept, and Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation staff implemented Kids After Dark as part of the Army Family Covenant, Cole said.

"Providing the Kids After Dark swim is another example of how the DFMWR Community Recreation Division is attempting to provide as many activities as possible for the Families in and around Fort Rucker," he said. "In addition to our massive increases to adult programming and Soldier training in our aquatics facilities, the Kids After Dark swim is a good compliment, along with the Guard Start (lifeguard) program, to include youth in our programming."

Splash! entry fees are $3 for adults, $2.25 for children age 13-17, $1.50 for children ages 3-12 and free for those 2 and under.
