New ROK JCS chairman visits Yongsan Garrison

YONGSAN GARRISON, South Korea - The top U.S. commander in South Korea hosted the new chairman of the Republic of Korea Joint Chiefs of Staff and members of the ROK Ministry of National Defense July 8.

During a ceremony at Knight Field, Gen. Walter L. Sharp, commander of United Nations Command, Combined Forces Command and U.S. Forces Korea, welcomed Gen. Han Min-goo, the newly appointed ROK CJCS.

The 2nd Infantry Division Salute Battery fired a 19-gun salute during the ceremony, and through the smoke, the official party inspected the troops. The battery commander presented the shell casings to the ROK CJCS.

The 8th Army Band concluded the ceremony by playing the National Anthems of both nations.

The ROK JCS chairman also met with Combined Forces Command leaders and took photos with them in front of the USFK headquarters.

At the headquarters building, Han signed the guest book and held an office call with CFC members.
