U.S. ARMY GARRISON-DETROIT ARSENAL, Mich. Aca,!" Members of the U.S. Army Garrison-Detroit Arsenal completed their first Motorcycle Mentorship program June 26.

Sixteen riders participating in the dayAca,!a,,cs events designed to establish a voluntary installation-level motorcycle club where less experienced and seasoned riders could create a supportive environment of responsible motorcycle riding and enjoyment.

The participants were able to ride on various courses, while practicing their riding techniques

There were three Aca,!A"road captainsAca,!A? who mentored their particular course until all riders felt safe and comfortable performing the required tasks. Each course was designed to test the rider's low speed handling skills - obstacle avoidance, U turns, braking and turning. The participants riding skills visibly improved as the afternoon progressed.

The GarrisonAca,!a,,cs Mobile Emergency Operations Command Vehicle was also on site to provide computer-based based training for the participants.

After practicing their riding techniques, each participant received an Orange Icon rider safety vest and a variety of rider safety items which had been donated for the event.

Matt Barger, Detroit Arsenal employee. Aca,!A"I was especially impressed with the electronic situation safety trainer and the take-home materials provided to make me a more aware rider. I look forward to the next training event."

The afternoon wrapped up with a group ride around the installation led by Alan Parks, deputy garrison manager. This was intended to give the participants an idea of what to expect in a group setting; as well as to prepare for the Installation Road Rally scheduled for August 28.
