Maj. Gen. Karl R. Horst, commander of Joint Force Headquarters National Capital Region and The U.S Army Military District of Washington hosted a farewell and award ceremony for Col. Mark Rivest, Staff Judge Advocate on July 1, 2010.

Rivest received The Meritorious Service Medal for exceptionally meritorious service while assigned as the Staff Judge Advocate for Maj. Gen. Karl R. Horst, commander of Joint Force Headquarters National Capital Region and The U.S Army Military District of Washington. Maj. Gen. Horst stated that Rivest's professional skills and dedication significantly contributed to the command's readiness and Department of Defense Support of Domestic Operations.

Maj. Gen. Horst stated, " I could count on Mark Rivest to provide sound legal guidance for our major subordinate commands and five installations. He was always ready to assist when needed."

Rivest thanked the Staff Judge Advocate Corps for giving him the opportunity to serve three times as an SJA. "Each time I served I was able to grow and become a better officer to help serve you," he said. He also stated that Joint Force Headquarters National Capital Region and The U.S Army Military District of Washington is a unique command team and he has enjoyed the family atmosphere of each directorate working with each other to get the mission accomplished.
