Even though the Warrior Training Center's roster was an outfielder short, it came back in the bottom of the fifth inning to win 9-6 over the Hitmen in an intramural softball game June 22 at Gowdy Field.

The Hitmen of DENTAC scored two runs on Hector Graudiel and Jeremy Ball RBI singles in the top of the first inning, while WTC scored on a bases-loaded walk and errors to lead 3-2.

After three scoreless innings, the Hitmen took a 6-3 lead, scoring on errors and a Terry Scott two-run double. The Hitmen's lead was short-lived, as WTC capitalized on a David Tuck three-run homer, two runs on errors and a bases-loaded walk to seal the win, 9-6.

"It was a pretty good game, considering we didn't have the entire team," said Tuck, the WTC coach. "We only played with nine players so it's an automatic out every time (the missing player) comes (up to bat) in the lineup .... We got on base any way we could and took the runs any way we could get them. The (team was) patient at the plate and didn't swing at bad pitches."

WTC pitcher Scott Boston said the outing wasn't WTC's most stellar performance.

"I think our momentum could have been better," he said. "We were itching to speed up the game, but we weren't hitting and they weren't hitting .... nobody was paying attention to the scoring. They hit a bunch on errors in the fifth inning and when the inning was over, we were like, 'Whoa, wait a minute.' Our guys jumped on it, got the lead back and we were able to win it."

WTC is 2-1. Up next for WTC is E Co., 1st Battalion (Airborne), 507th Parachute Infantry Regiment, at 7 p.m. July 1, while the Hitmen will take on 1/507th PIR at 7 p.m. June 29 at Knappenberger Field.
