FORT RUCKER, Ala. -- I want to take this opportunity to share a few thoughts before I change command on June 28.

The last two years have gone by quickly and I am truly blessed to have been a part of the Fort Rucker community. As you can imagine, it has been a tremendous honor for me to command such a great garrison.

I would like to thank Maj. Gen. James O. Barclay III, U.S. Army Aviation Center of Excellence and Fort Rucker commanding general, for not settling for anything but the best. His persistent attitude, focus and support to the garrison ensured our installation received resources in order to make this a better place to live and work.

I would like to thank Davis D. Tindoll Jr., U.S. Army Installation Management Command,Southeast Region director, for trusting us to do our jobs and for allowing me to be a member of his team. He knows our garrison well and he loves Fort Rucker.

I'd like to thank the garrison directors and the workforce for what they do each and every day, always with a positive, can-do attitude. They put the needs of our community first, always looking for ways to improve and stretch our budget dollars.

I was also truly blessed with a great deputy garrison commander, garrison command sergeant major and administrative staff. I could not have asked for anyone more professional and dedicated. What a great team!

Thank you to our partners outside the gates. It warms my heart to know every neighboring town claims to be the "Home of Fort Rucker." There are no finer, more patriotic people than our Wiregrass neighbors. It is truly a blessing to have such great support for our Soldiers and Families.

Finally, as I say farewell to this wonderful place and the job of a lifetime, I'd like to welcome my replacement, Col. Jim Muskopf, and his wife, Esther. I know you will open your hearts to them as you have to me.

I hope the garrison team has made this place just a little bit better for everyone. Thank you for giving me the honor to serve you as the garrison commander over the last two years.

Support and Defend!
