PRESIDIO OF MONTEREY, Calif. - Volunteers from the Presidio of Monterey community were honored with a ceremony in the General Stilwell Center, Ord Military Community, June 10.
"The annual outstanding volunteer recognition ceremony is an opportunity for the garrison and Army Community Service to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of our volunteers who give hundreds of hours throughout the year," said POM Army Volunteer Corps Coordinator Michelle Sturtevant.
From over 2,500 volunteers, eight were chosen to represent their respective categories for outstanding volunteer service.
"In the past year, 2,573 individuals have volunteered 31,978 hours," said Sturtevant. "I think that is amazing, and those 2,573 people are doing wonderful things to support our military community, our troops and the students here at the Presidio."
POM Garrison Commander Col. Darcy Brewer and Command Sgt. Maj. Olga Martinez were on hand to give each volunteer a signed certificate of appreciation that was presented alongside command group coins inside a glass frame.
Sturtevant, who was recently hired for POM Army Community Service's volunteer program, expressed her gratitude to the command in recognizing its community volunteers and having events such as this.
"Often, we forget to say 'thank you,'" Sturtevant said. "This event was a time to say 'thank you' and recognize a few individuals who represent so many other people who are also volunteering."
