RED CLOUD GARRISON - Department of Defense Dependents Schools-Korea officials have released the policy outlining enrollment eligibility for all DOD-eligible students who will reside in Warrior Country during the 2010-2011 school year.

Before the construction of Casey Elementary School, which will open for Sure Start through eighth grade students Aug. 30 at Casey Garrison, students living in Warrior Country were given the option of attending a DoDDS-Korea or non-DoDDS international school in Uijeongbu or Dongducheon.

Sure Start is for pre-kindergarten children four years of age.

"Please know that I am very excited about our new school, and I sincerely look forward to working with you in providing our students with an outstanding educational environment at the USAG Casey K-8 School," DoDDS-Korea Superintendent Dr. Irby Miller said in the memorandum addressed to commanders, parents, sponsors and students.

Under the new policy, students of sponsors stationed at Casey Garrison who are in kindergarten through eighth grade will be required to attend the Department of Defense Education Activity's newest school.

As in the past, students from Dongducheon in grades nine through 12 are considered outside the Seoul school complex commuting area and remain eligible to attend international schools.

Students also have the option of attending Seoul American High School on a tuition-free, space available basis. Busing to SAHS will be offered on a space available basis from Casey Garrison but sponsors must bring them to the installation.

Kindergarten through eighth grade students' whose sponsors are assigned to Uijeongbu will be provided a DoDEA education at Casey Elementary School. Attendance at private, non-DoDDS institutions at government expense will not be authorized.

Another change for the 2010-2011 school year is students in grades nine through 12 living in Uijeongbu and in the Seoul school commuting area, will not be permitted to attend international schools at government expense. DoDDS-Korea will continue to provide transportation to Seoul for those students.

With Casey Elementary School set to open its doors in less than three months, Principal Shelly Kennedy, who has been on the job working out of Seoul since March, is encouraging parents to get their students registered.

For students not currently enrolled in DoDDS-Korea, registration will be held in the Family Morale, Welfare, and Recreation Conference Room (Bldg. S-16) on Red Cloud Garrison Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. A second registration will be held in Casey Garrison's Maude Hall (Bldg. 2440, Rm. 209) Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Kennedy said 30 students enrolled in DoDDS-Korea in Seoul for the 2009-2010 who have parents living in Warrior Country have already been placed on the transfer list. Parents can verify if their children are on the list to attend Casey Elementary School by contacting Kennedy at 738-5554 or via e-mail at principal_caseyes@pac.dodea.edu.
