Maj. Gen. Karl R. Horst, commander, Joint Force Headquarters-National Capital Region and The U.S Military District of Washington was the keynote speaker at the 2010 Fredericksburg Regional Chamber of Commerce Military Affairs Council special event held at the Fredericksburg Country Club on June 1st.
Maj. Gen. Horst thanked members of Fredericksburg Regional Chamber of Commerce Military Affairs Council for their support toward the military, "This is a very important community in the state of Virginia," he said. Maj. Gen. Horst who is also the senior mission commander of Fort A.P. Hill, added, "We are among you and we are of you in this community."
"The defense industry plays a vital role in your community both economically and socially because it makes up more than one-third of the regional workforce. The members of the Armed Forces that serve on various installations in the surrounding area are not people you donAca,!a,,ct know Aca,!" they are your neighbors and friends, who are active members of the community. They serve as volunteers with youth events. They are scout leaders, members of your churches and too many other activities to name. " he said.
Maj. Gen. Horst told the committee,"As members of the Military Affairs Committee your work is imperative to creating and maintaining a healthy and balanced partnership which will continue to help your local communities be a great place to work and grow. I want to thank each of you, for making a difference and caring enough to work together to make your communities a better place to live."
Maj. Gen Horst gave an overview of the important missions of Joint Force Headquarters and The United States Army Military District of Washington. He stated, "Interacting with local, state and federal agencies, as well as the multitude of non-governmental organizations and the private sector, enables Joint Force Headquarters National Capital Region to better plan, prepare and execute missions within the National Capital Region Joint Operational Area."
He concluded by saying, "I am proud to be a part of your team as we work together to handle the tough challenges of maintaining a partnership which will continue to help our communities work and grow."
