YONGSAN GARRISON, South Korea - The annual Softball Challenge between the colonel and sergeant major teams was held May 29 at the Yongsan Garrison baseball field.

The colonel team - the Eagles - defended their championship by winning their second consecutive victory, 15 - 10.

Eagle player, Col. Kevin Lamberth, said the annual Softball Challenge is a great opportunity to instill a sense of unity and friendship.

Lamberth also said that it shows the supporters that athletes from both teams not only work hard but also play hard.

"We want to win the trophy for bragging rights! I don't want to see the sergeant majors that come to work on Monday and hear it from them," said Lamberth, with a grin on his face.

"I enjoy the event. It shows a lot of unity within the different ranks and it's great to meet different people," said Staff Sgt. Elan Demeytrian, who came to cheer for the sergeant major team.

Although the colonels are currently in the lead with the record of 12 wins and 8 losses since the series began in 1991, the challenge remains competitive and the sergeant major team has had colossal victories like the one in 2001 where they won 43 - 9.
