Team Five ended the inaugural women's volleyball season at Fort Benning by winning a best-of-three showdown for the championship against the Island Girls May 19 at Smith Fitness Center.

Team Five ended the first set of the first match with a 25-13 win.

The Island Girls evened the score with a 25-21 win in the second during a set that featured five ties.
Team Five shut down the Island Girls in the third set, earning a 15-6 win to seal the game one victory.

"Both teams were playing really well in the first game, so it was just a matter of time before one of us won it," Team Five coach Courtney Bath said.

Between games, Bath talked to the team about strategy and defense.

"I thought they could have come back in the second game - they are a good team," Bath said.
In the second match, Team Five kept its scoring streak going, winning the first set 30-28.

In the championship-deciding second set, Team Five maintained the lead the entire set, with their biggest lead stretching to 17-6. Team Five maintained a 10-point lead for the remainder of the set and sealed it with a spike from Kerri-Ann McMullen to win 25-15.

"We were a little tired in the second game, but we gutted it out for the win," Bath said.
Team Five's Kristin Brokaw said overall, the team played well.

"The first game was tough because it was close, but we pulled through for the win," she said.
"We were down for a little bit, but we came back and by the second game, we were focused."
