Employees honored at Presidio Garrison presentation

PRESIDIO OF MONTEREY, Calif. - Aca,!A"This is a special event that recognizes the hard work, dedication and achievements of our fine garrison work force,Aca,!A? said the narrator of the quarterly garrison awards ceremony at the PresidioAca,!a,,cs Weckerling Center May 7.

Aca,!A"ItAca,!a,,cs the examples of the professionals we recognize and honor today that makes the U.S. Army Garrison, Presidio of Monterey, an outstanding place to work,Aca,!A? said narrator Susan Kastner, Presidio of Monterey Garrison director of human resources.

The event was hosted by Col. Darcy Brewer, garrison commander. Also officiating were Pamela von Ness, deputy to the garrison commander and Command Sgt. Maj. Olga Martinez, garrison command sergeant major.

Following an invocation by Chaplain (Maj.) Marvin E. Santos, Kastner asked for a pause to remember garrison employee Andy Matthews who died after a long illness April 7. Matthews worked from 2005 through 2010 in the Military Personnel Division of the Directorate of Human Resources.

Von Ness then took to the podium to introduce newly hired garrison employees. New employees who were greeted:

Aca,!Ac Directorate of Emergency Services - Sherwin Andres, Cesar Mercado III, Raymond Ramos and Miguel Rosas, security guards.

Aca,!Ac Directorate of Family, Morale, Welfare and Recreation - Rashunda Clement (program operations specialist - Child, Youth and School Services), Lorraine Hennessy, (social services assistant - Army Community Service), Nancy Humphreys, (social services assistant - Army Community Service), Beth Jenson, (family advocacy and Exceptional Family Member Program administrative assistance), and Marsha Olsen, (Porter Youth Center facility manager - Child, Youth and School Services).

Aca,!Ac Directorate of Human Resources - Courtney Shingleton, workforce development.

Aca,!Ac Directorate of Logistics Bethany Pinkas, logistics management specialist.

Aca,!Ac Directorate of Public Works - Lenore Grover-Bullington, chief of Environmental Division, and Glenwood Ivey, environmental protection specialist.

Aca,!Ac Directorate of Resource Management - Sarah Smith, budget analyst.

Aca,!Ac Equal Employment Opportunity Office - Patricia Duncan, Equal Employment Opportunity specialist.

Ten employees received certificates for their time in service:

Aca,!Ac In recognition of 30 years of service: Carolyn Ann Squire (Directorate of Emergency Services), Betty Fisher (Directorate of Family, Morale, Welfare and Recreation), John Elliot (Master Plans Division); and Willard Meyer, Directorate of Public Works.

Jonathan Kennealy, Jean Louis, Jr.; and Michael Macias of the Directorate of Emergency Services were each recognized with a diploma and cash award for successfully completing training at the Department of the Army Civilian Police Academy at Fort. Leonard Wood, Mo.

Cpl. Marco Vazquez of the Directorate of Emergency Services received a garrison commanderAca,!a,,cs coin for his nomination as Officer of the Year.

Jeffery Parker of the Directorate of Emergency Services was presented a letter of commendation from the City of Marina and a garrison commanderAca,!a,,cs coin for his service in a life-threatening situation during a house fire in Marina.

Harry Courtney of the Directorate of Emergency Services was presented a Department of the Army Certificate of Achievement for his role in a Lean Six Sigma installation access control project.

Richard Castro of the Directorate of Family, Morale, Welfare and Recreation was awarded a garrison certificate of appreciation for driving Outdoor Recreation ski and snowboard groups to the Sierra Nevada Mountains during severe winter conditions.

Jacob FaAca,!a,,catuai of the Directorate of Family, Morale, Welfare and Recreation was awarded a garrison certificate of appreciation for winning third place in the master-of-ceremony category of the Youth Talent Program at the 2009 U.S. Army Festival of the Arts and Recreation Program Events Competition.

Natalie Gardiner of the Directorate of Family, Morale, Welfare and Recreation was awarded a garrison certificate of appreciation for providing customer service and management to over 350 accounts at the Outdoor Recreation Vehicle Storage Facility at the Ord Military Community.

Barbara Yates of the Directorate of Family, Morale, Welfare and Recreation was awarded a garrison certificate of appreciation for her work as a motor coach operator for the Outdoor Recreation Transportation Division.

Fernando Casao of the Directorate of Human Resources was awarded a garrison certificate of commendation for his work creating and perfecting a personnel-status report during the installationAca,!a,,cs force protection exercise.

Alfredo Lino of the Directorate of Human Resources was awarded a certificate of commendation for his work automating a form and for creating a form that tracked tenant organization personnel.

Angelica Baltazar of the Directorate of Human Resources was awarded a Department of the Army Achievement Medal for Civilian Service while assigned as human resources assistant (Military) at the Military Personnel Division from June 2008 through May 2010.

Virginia Ramos of the Directorate of Logistics was awarded a Department of the Army Commendation Certificate for her work in researching the fair market value of equipment.

Erick Martinez of the Directorate of Logistics was awarded a letter of commendation and commemorative coin from of Fort IrwinAca,!a,,cs centrally billed accounts and reconciliation procedures.

Mike Gallant of Monterey-Salinas Transit was awarded a garrison certificate of appreciation for studying ridership trends to adjust bus times and routes to best service the workforce of the Presidio of Monterey.

Zdravko Avdalovic, assistant dean of the European and Latin American Schools, Defense language Institute Foreign Language Center, was awarded a garrison certificate of appreciation and commemorative coin for providing computer lab support during the installationAca,!a,,cs force protection exercise.

Anita Madison of the Directorate of Public Works was awarded a garrison certificate of appreciation for locating and mapping endangered plants at the Presidio of Monterey and Ord Military Community.

Cassandra Pullins of the Directorate of Public Works was awarded an achievement medal for civilian service for providing mission-essential support for the directorate staff.

Travis Reid of the Directorate of Resource Management was recognized for receiving a U.S. Army Reserve commission and a Certified Defense Financial Manager diploma.

Mike DeLaCruz of the Directorate of Emergency Services was awarded a certificate of appreciation for his assistance in updating the Equal Employment Opportunity Office website.

Darwin Strickland of the Office of the Staff Judge Advocate was awarded a Department of the Army Achievement Medal for Civilian Service for his work in an outreach program which improved client access to legal assistance services.

Department of the Army Lean Six Sigma certifications went to Yasmin Al-Shawaf (green belt) and Michael Benson (black belt).

Lynn Aguon, Hubert Beckett, Edward Cruz, Steven Hossman, Siagi Ierome, Migual Pablo and Clotilde Techaira were each awarded a certificate of appreciation for assisting in the 2010 Mud Run co-sponsored by the California State University Monterey Bay and Presidio of Monterey Garrison.

Keir B. Jewett, Leland Sanchez, Jr. and Percival Scott of the Document Automation and Production Service were each awarded a garrison certificate of appreciation for support in the publishing the Installation Operation CenterAca,!a,,cs Standard Operating Procedures, Antiterrorism Program Operations Plan, Disaster Preparedness Program Operations Plan, Emergency Procedures and Drill Pamphlet and the Garrison Battle Rhythm Pamphlet.

Lisa Carrawell of the Mission and Installation Contracting Command and Lenore Grover-Bullington, Anita Madison, Ricardo Saldana and James Symanski of the Directorate of Public Works were each awarded a garrison commanderAca,!a,,cs commemorative coin for work in preparing for future construction by ensuring that contracts were expedited to install water meters and water connections.

Per Anderson, Josh Harchysen and John Quenga of K-MAR Industries Inc., were each awarded a garrison certificate of appreciation for assistance in completing a special project to convert more than 60 Equal Employment Opportunity Office training tapes from VHS format to DVDs.
