FORT CARSON, Colo. - The 52nd Engineer Battalion, 555th Engineer Brigade, unfurled its colors for the first time in five years during an activation and ribbon-cutting ceremony at the battalion's new facilities April 16.
Lt. Col. Michael Brooks, commander, 52nd Eng. Bn., said he was proud of and encouraged by the Soldiers who form the new ranks of the reactivated battalion.
"These are the best Soldiers in the world," said Brooks. "Most of them volunteered to serve their country during a time of war. They live the Army Values; our country would be a much better place if all of its citizens practiced these values."
"These great Soldiers have the will to prepare in order to win on the battlefield and always deliver to those they support," said Brooks.
Col. Michael Brobeck, commander, 555th Engineer Brigade, praised the unit's long and illustrious history of service.
"From building roads in France in World War I, to clearing beach heads in Africa, Sicily and Italy in World War II, to Haiti and to Iraq in Desert Storm and Operation Iraq Freedom," said Brobeck. "While the Soldiers, leaders and our nation's causes have changed over the years, the one constant has been the battalion colors you see proudly flying today."
"There is a lot of history and honor in those colors paid for by the blood sweat and tears of thousands upon thousands that have gone before," he said.
Following the reactivation ceremony, the battalion also celebrated the opening of the battalion's new motor pool and company operations facility with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
"This is amazing," said Brooks. "Never in my career have I had such great facilities. We are pleased to have them."
Following the ribbon cutting, the 52nd Eng. Bn. leadership invited the guests for refreshments and a tour of the new facilities.
The 52nd Eng. Bn. called Fort Carson home from 1968 until their deactivation in 2005.
Brooks said he is proud the 52nd Eng. Bn. could return to the Fort Carson team.
"We in the 52nd Command Group often talk about how we are living the dream," Brooks said. "We are part of the Mountain Post Team, which is truly the best in the world."
