Holocaust observance
Fort Wainwright's Holocaust Remembrance Day observance was coordinated by the 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, Equal Opportunity office April 16 at the PFC. This observance was only one of many held throughout the country last week as part of the "Days of Remembrance," the week-long commemoration established by the United States Holocaust Memorial Council in honor of the victims of the Holocaust. Members of the Fort Wainwright community came together to listen, learn and remember so that this crime against humanity may never happen again. Guest speaker, Dr. Randall Miller, director of the Medical Evaluation Boards for Medical Activity- Alaska, asked Harvey Kurzbard, teacher and community member, to speak on his behalf. Kurzbard's parents were survivors of the concentration camps and the stories passed down to him, detailed the atrocities his parents experienced during the Holocaust. Dr. Randall Miller, Director of the Medical Evaluation Boards for MEDDAC Alaska, lights the 5th candle of the menorah during the special observance.
