Virginia Governor Robert McDonnell praised Norfolk District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, for its environmental excellence in preserving the Crow's Nest peninsula.

The Crow's Nest peninsula is home to 60 Neotropical migratory bird species, more than 700 acres of wetlands, a globally threatened plant community and early Native Indian, colonial and Civil War-era history.

The Crow's Nest natural area preserve establishes a model for ecologically-based mitigation and environmental protection in support of sustainability.
