The 9-and 10-year-old Wildcats added to their undefeated record April 1 after clawing their way to a 9-5 win over the Black Knights at the Youth Sports Complex.

The Black Knights took a 1-0 lead on a Gilberto Contreras RBI single in the top of the first inning. Wildcat Jesse Volkman hit an RBI single to tie at 1-1 and the Wildcats took a 2-1 lead after Caleb Youngblood scored on an outfielder's error.

Wildcats pitcher Volkman shut the Black Knights down in the top of the second inning, while the Wildcats added two more runs to lead 4-1. The Black Knights scored two runs on walks and tacked on two more runs to lead 5-4 in the bottom of the inning.

Contreras pitched a perfect inning in the bottom of the third, but the Wildcats came back in the bottom of the fourth with three runs on walks. With a Youngblood RBI single and Tyler Beal home run, the Wildcats sealed the 9-5 victory.

Wildcats' first baseman Beal, 11, said it was the first time he has ever hit a home run.

"It felt good to get a home run," Beal said. "As soon as the ball hit the bat, I knew the ball was going to go far."

He said the game was close and it was constant back-and-forth battle.

Wildcats pitcher Austin Mason, 10, said the final innings were hard-fought and the win didn't come easy.

"In the last part of the game, we had to work hard to get the lead back and we did," he said. "It wasn't easy. The other team had good hitters."

Wildcats coach Timothy Morgan said the team was able to put what they have learned throughout the season into play.

"My pitchers hung in there, threw strikes and we had good hits," Morgan said. "Overall, the team played hard and worked together."
