YONGSAN GARRISON, South Korea - Eighth U.S. Army celebrated Black History Month at the Main Post Club on Yongsan Garrison Feb. 24.

Sponsored by Special Troops Battalion-Korea, the event honored the history of African Americans.

The ceremony started with a slideshow that featured the achievements of African Americans. Seoul American High School student Sean Steadman then recited the poem "Thank You" to acknowledge the accomplishments of African Americans.

Donald "Don" Elder, a Tuskegee Airman and Congressional Gold Medal recipient, served as the guest speaker.

"I couldn't have done this alone. The work I have accomplished is not mine ... not Black Americans ... but ours. Color cannot reflect one's ability," said Elder. "We have been true to the idea that America is truly a land of possibility."
