The MEDCOM Winter Performance awards were given out during the Military Health Systems Conference at the National Harbor, Md., in January.

The four award categories included Workload, Evidence Based Medicine, Patient Satisfaction and Access to Care.

Workload awards recognized Military Treatment Facilities (MTFs) and Dental Regions for gains of more than 5% in either inpatient or outpatient workload. Twenty-four MTFs and five Dental Regions were recognized.

Evidence Based Medicine and Patient Satisfaction Awards were given to the three commands with the best overall performance within their respective peer group, and to the three commands that have shown the greatest improvement over a year ago within their peer group.

The Access to Care Above and Beyond Award was presented to the three Military Treatment Facilities that best supported the AMEDD's Access to Care Campaign by going above and beyond to ensure that beneficiaries were provided the right care by the right provider at the right time in the right venue.

MEDCEN PEER GROUP:

Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany was recognized as the top performer among Medical Centers with both an outpatient workload increase at 17.5% and an inpatient workload increase at 13.1%. They were also recognized as the top performer and most improved in patient satisfaction among Medical Centers. They received two checks totaling $480,000.

Brooke Army Medical Center, Fort Sam Houston, Texas was recognized for being both the top performer and the most improved in Evidence Based Medicine compliance of all Army Medical Centers. They were also recognized as being the winner of the Access to Care Award in the Medical Center Peer Group. They received checks totaling $360,000.

Eisenhower Army Medical Center, Fort Gordon, Ga., received a check for $110,000 as a result of a 12.6% increase in outpatient workload which ranked them second among all Medical Centers.

Madigan Army Medical Center, Fort Lewis, Wash., received a check for $110,000 as the second ranked MEDCEN with an inpatient workload increase of 9.4%.

Tripler Army Medical Center, Fort Shafter, Hawaii, received a check for $100,000 for having the third highest increase in outpatient workload with an 8.1% increase.

Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Washington, D.C., received a check for $100,000 for having a 5.4% growth in inpatient workload which ranked them third among all Army Medical Centers.

Darnall Army Medical Center, Fort Hood, Texas, received a check for $90,000 for ranking fourth with an outpatient growth of 5.2%.

PEER GROUP: MTFS WITH INPATIENT CAPABILITIES

Blanchfield Army Community Hospital, Fort Campbell, Ky., received checks totaling $260,000 for their 23.6% increase in outpatient workload - which constitutes the second largest of all medical facilities - and for being the best in their peer group in performance and improvement in Evidence Based Practice compliance.

Irwin Army Community Hospital, Fort Riley, Ky., received checks totaling $240,000 for a 5.9% increase in outpatient workload, and for being both the top performer and the most improved in this peer group in patient satisfaction.

Winn Army Community Hospital, Fort Stewart, Ga., received a check for $180,000 for increases in both outpatient and inpatient workload at 30.3% and 50.4% respectively. These increases were the largest of all Army activities.

Bayne-Jones Army Community Hospital, Fort Polk, La., received a check for $140,000 for having the second largest inpatient growth in this peer group at 22.1% and the third largest outpatient growth at 19.7%.

Evans Army Community Hospital, Fort Carson, Colo., was recognized with a check for $130,000 for workload growth in both inpatient and outpatient services, and a check for $90,000 for an Access to Care award.

Moncrief Army Community Hospital, Fort Jackson, S.C., received $120,000 for having a 10.5% increase in outpatient workload and a 6.3% increase in inpatient workload.

Brian Allgood Army Community Hospital, Seoul, Korea received $90,000 and tied with Irwin Army community Hospital as the Top Overall Performer in Patient Satisfaction for this peer group.

Keller Army Community Hospital, West Point, N.Y., received $70,000 for placing third in their peer group with an outpatient workload increase of 19.7%.

Dewitt Army Community Hospital, Fort Belvoir, Va., received $60,000 for their 11.4% increase in outpatient workload.

Ireland Army Community Hospital, Fort Knox, Ky., received $60,000 for a 9.9% increase in outpatient performance.

Reynolds Army Community Hospital, Fort Sill, Okla., received $60,000 for a 7.7% increase in outpatient workload.

Martin Army Community Hospital, Fort Benning, Ga., was one of only three facilities to receive an award every year since the inception of the awards program, and received $60,000 award for its increase in outpatient workload of 7.45%.

PEER GROUP: MTFS WITHOUT INPATIENT CAPABILITIES:

BG Crawford Sams Army Health Clinic, Camp Zama, Japan was the top winner in the peer group and received three checks totaling $170,000. The first award was for having the second highest increase in outpatient workload in the peer group at 17.2%. The second award was in recognition of their being the Top Performer in the peer group in evidence based medicine. The third award was for recognition as the Access to Care award winner for the peer group.

Lyster Army Health Clinic, Fort Rucker, Ala., received two checks totaling $100,000 - the first for their 13% increase in outpatient workload, which was third in this peer group, and the second check for being the Most Improved Facility in the peer group in Evidence Based Medicine.

Kenner Army Health Clinic, Fort Lee, Va., received two checks totaling $90,000 for an increase in outpatient workload of 12.1% and for being the most improved in Patient Satisfaction in the peer group.

R.W. Bliss Army Health Clinic, Fort Huachuca, Ariz., received $60,000 in recognition of its 23.5% increase in outpatient workload, the highest in the peer group.

Heidelberg Medical Activity, Heidelberg, Germany, was recognized as the Top Overall Performer in the peer group for patient satisfaction and was awarded $60,000.

McDonald Army Health Clinic, Fort Eustis, Va., tied for fourth in the peer group in outpatient workload improvement and received a check for $30,000.

Wuerzburg Medical Activity, Vilseck, Germany, received $30,000 for its 11.6% increase in outpatient workload.

Kimbrough Ambulatory Care Center, Fort Meade, Md., received $30,000 for a 5.5% increase in outpatient workload.

DENTAL REGIONAL COMMANDS WITH 5% OR LARGER GROWTH:

Pacific Regional Dental Command with a 23.2% increase received $60,000.
Western Regional Dental Command with a 12% increase received $50,000.
Southern Regional Dental Command with an 8% increase received $40,000.
Northern Regional Dental Command with a 7.6% increase received $30,000.
European Regional Dental Command with a 6.9% increase received $20,000.
