Display to showcase Soldier technology, chow to Congress

NATICK , Mass. - Why are American military forces the best protected, best equipped and best sustained troops in the world today' And how does science play a part in the technology used by our Soldiers' Congress will get the answer to these questions during Soldier Modernization Day, June 6, on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C.

For this event, representatives from the Program Executive Office Soldier and the U.S. Army Natick Soldier Systems Center will join forces to showcase items that improve our warfighters' lives.

Representatives of Congress, their staffers and visitors will get an opportunity to view the latest innovations in Soldier technology and sample some of the new field rations. The presentation is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 6 in the Rayburn Foyer of the Rayburn Office Building. Media are invited to attend this event.

Some key items scheduled for display include:

Land Warrior/Future Force Warrior Systems - These systems will provide increased capabilities to our warfighters using advanced technologies.

Sample the latest Meals, Ready-To-Eat, Unitized Group Rations, and components of the new First Strike Ration - menu items that are warfighter recommended, warfighter tested and warfighter approved. Menus are changed annually to ensure the diverse cultural and ethnic food preferences of our warfighters are being met. (NOTE: These items will be available for sampling from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. only.)

Current items that are improving our warfighters' survivability, mobility and quality of life, including: Interceptor Body Armor, Advanced Combat Helmet, Army Combat Shirt, Fire Resistant Environmental Ensemble, Navy Flight Deck Uniform and Special Operations Forces Survival Systems.

Work done in conjunction with America's First Responder community, specifically the Law Enforcement Advanced Protection Uniform Ensemble.

The latest Joint Precision Airdrop System.

Weapons that improve our Warfighters' lethality, including: XM110 Semi-Automatic Sniper System, M4 Modular Carbine, M26 12-Gauge Modular Accessory Shotgun System and the XM25 Individual Airburst Weapon System.
